Ma’ayanot biology students had an “eggcellent” time learning about genetics. The 9th graders recently completed the unit of genetics and became researchers and parents of an egg (not hard boiled!) with a genetic condition. The students researched various genetic conditions, such as muscular dystrophy, Gaucher disease, hemophilia, Tay-Sachs. They cared for them for a few days, educating their family and friends about the disease they are studying. After they researched the genetic condition they received their eggs to decorate, make a carrier and gave names to their eggs. At the end of the three weeks they will have compiled all their knowledge, data, and personal logs on a Google website to present and share with their peers.
