Ma’ayanot, in partnership with the FIDF’s student ambassador program, was privileged to host rocket scientist Ari Sacher. Sacher has worked in the design and development of missiles for over thirty years, and he is a key member of the team that developed the Iron Dome. With humor, down to earth language, pictures and videos, he explained the impetus for creating this defense system and the basics of how it works. When he described the need for each of the intricate steps to function properly, he humbly shared that its 95% success rate is nothing short of a miracle. He has briefed hundreds of US Congressmen on Israeli Missile Defense and US-Israel defense collaboration and reminded the students how important it is to advocate with elected officials to maintain the funding for this life saving system. The students were fascinated by the science and inspired by the dedication to saving lives and ensuring that life in Israel can now have a sense of security from the endless rain of rockets.
