Coming off their first road win, the Rapids traveled to Paramus, NJ to face last year’s defending champion, the Frisch Cougars. After two losses to the Cougars last year (both in the regular season and the semifinals), the Rapids were poised for revenge. Right from the start, the Rapids let Frisch know they came to play; Freshman phenom Dafna Levine scored ten seconds into the game, securing a lead the team never lost. Frisch settled in but the Rapids responded with a flurry of goals by Dafna (5) and last year’s JV superstar Aleeza Berkowitz (3) to jump ahead 8-2. Tova Sklar iced the contest with a mercy, her first goal of the season, shortly into the fourth quarter and attained the Rapids’ 9-2 win.
The Rapids looked to stay hungry and feisty as they faced last year’s finalists, the Kushner Cobras. Two years ago the Cobras knocked the Rapids out of the playoffs. The Rapids were ready for a fight. The game started with both teams fighting for possession, until Ma’ayanot’s Dafna Levine took the ball coast to coast to put the Rapids ahead 1-0. The Rapids did not look back, ending the second quarter with a commanding 6-1 lead. The Rapids displayed some clever ball movement and finished the game with strong play and an 8-1 win. The Rapids proved capable of sharing the ball thus enabling many players to score, including Dafna Levine, Aleeza Berkowitz, Tova Sklar, Moreet Levine, Chana Waintraub and Elisheva Taragin. Not to be forgotten, the Ma’ayanot goalie tandem of Sarah Shelling and Yardena Tammam have quietly held opponents to four goals over three games. The Rapids enter Pesach break half way to a perfect season with their sights set on the ultimate prize.
