Ma’ayanot Rapids Return from Pesach Break with Win

Playing in a game after consuming a week’s worth of matzah is no easy task, but the Rapids looked to shake off the rust and maintain their winning ways at home against the stingy Hillel Heat. The game started slow as both teams adjusted to a week of no play. Shortly thereafter the Rapids awoke, scoring five quick goals to take a commanding 5-0 lead after one. The second quarter was a bit different; Hillel settled down and scored 2 goals to cut the lead to 5-2, but the Rapids responded quickly scoring 2 of their own—taking a 7-2 lead into half. The third quarter provided some more back and forth. The Heat stayed aggressive, scoring two more goals, only to have their hopes fade again as the Rapids regrouped after a timeout to score three. Shortly into the fourth quarter the Rapids iced the game with another goal, securing an 11-4 mercy—their fourth consecutive mercy and fifth win of the year. The Rapids enjoyed more solid play from their young front court players Dafna and Aleeza, who combined for nine of the Rapids’ 11 goals. Together with the Rapids’ veteran leadership and solid play of captains Moreet and Tova, the Rapids secured a winning season for the second consecutive year. The Rapids look to continue to make strides as they face Frisch, Buriah and Kushner in the coming weeks to close out the regular season.
