Last week the Ma’ayanot Rapids hockey team faced their biggest competition, the Frisch Cougars. The game was a challenging one: the score remained 0-0 through the end of the second period. The Maayanot gym was packed with parents and fans; you could probably hear the famous “BOOM BOOM LET ME HEAR YOU SAY RAPIDS” cheer all the way down the block. The Rapids’ green mascots were running around with posters and flags encouraging the team to hustle, play hard, and show Frisch what they have. The game was very intense, with few scoring opportunities.
Ma’ayanot goalie, Sara Hiller, played an outstanding game. She was diving all over the place to protect the shutout.
In the beginning of the third period, the Rapids’ first line (Alex Fuchs, Aliza Kaszovitz, Tova Weider and Rebecca Malech) broke the ice and scored the game’s lone goal. Malech, a freshman and first year player, made an unbelievable play. When she gracefully scored, Ma’ayanot took a 1-0 lead, and a win in the Rapids’ home opener.
