In their third and final track meet of the season, on May 13th the Ma’ayanot track team was once again the star attraction. The team has done particularly well in previous meets and was excited to extend its success to the final meet of the season. (Usually the track season only consists of two meets, so this one was a bonus—per request of the athletes who wanted one more meet before the end of the season.)
The meet participants included Frisch, TABC, and Kushner, at Frisch. (Because Frisch and Kushner are coed, the Ma’ayanot and TABC scores counted as one.) The girls participated in the 100-, 200-, and 400-meter dashes, in addition to a half- mile relay. Ma’ayanot girls finished first in the 100-meter dash, the 200-meter dash, and the relay, and got third place in the 400-meter dash, many of them completing their races in a new record time for them. Although it was a little chilly outside, the girls were able to come together and win the meet.
Although the team only practices once a week, at the track at Teaneck High School, they are able to thrive because of the tremendous leadership of their coach, Miss Marta Baez, a Ma’ayanot physical education teacher.
