Ma’ayanot Varsity Soccer Starts the Season with Hard Fought Victory

Coming off a loss in last year’s varsity soccer semifinal to eventual champion Firsch, the Ma’ayanot rapids looked to start off the new season on the right foot. Under returning Coach Moshe “Ziggy” Zharnest and their new assistant Penina Sheer, the Rapids re-tooled with a new young core.

The Rapids came out firing and quickly jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead, but after a costly mistake and some pressure from SAR, the score was 2-2 after one. In the 2nd quarter the Rapids seemed to fall apart, giving up three goals and failing to score.

The second half was a different story, as the Rapids came out firing with a balanced attack and scoring 8 goals to regain the lead behind stellar defense, smart offensive pressure and excellent goal-tending. The Rapids held SAR to one goal over the next 30 minutes resulting in a 10-6 victory.

The Rapids continue their season on the road as they travel to Hillel 3/12 for their first away game.
