As part of a Martin Luther King Day unit, the students at Yeshivat He’Atid watched and discussed the recent Maccabeats video, recorded and filmed in partnership with the acapella group Naturally 7, on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. They were so proud of the Maccabeats that they wrote beautiful nachat notes to them and sang them a “cover” of the Depeche Mode song “People Are People.” Founding Maccabeat, Josh Jay, visited He’Atid to accept the nachat notes on behalf of the group, and to talk to the students about the process of making the video. The spirit of brotherhood (achdut) and collaboration evidenced in the video are tenets we teach to live and live to teach.
