The Maccabeats will be performing at the Jewish Family Service of Clifton’s 8th Annual SEQUOIA Benefit Concert, to be held on Sunday, November 1, at 2 p.m. at Adas Israel, 565 Broadway, Passaic, NJ. The concert will be followed by a dessert reception in honor of Stella Rabner, Holocaust survivor, a devoted and proud mother of two extraordinary sons, and an exemplary member of the Jewish Family Service community.
Stella’s volunteer work began with resettling refugees coming to America from the former Soviet Union, and she continues to play a vital role in the lives of these now aging immigrants. She translates for them, visits the infirm, and acts as a lifeline to their extended families. Stella volunteers at the Senior Center, serving lunch weekly. She is an active member of Cafe Europa and is instrumental in organizing trips for Holocaust survivors. She participates on numerous committees and always is the first person to volunteer for anything that is needed.
Stella summarizes her passion to volunteer in one simple yet profound statement: “I like to volunteer because when I needed help there was none!”
The Maccabeats, an all-male a cappella group based out of Yeshiva University, have entertained and inspired hundreds of audiences worldwide, from Alabama to New Zealand and everywhere in between. Using nothing more than the human voice, and a little humor, this unique group of singers is able to connect with fans of all backgrounds and ages.
Jewish Family Service offers a wide array of services to senior citizens. The SEQUOIA Geriatric Wellness Center includes a dynamic non-denominational four-day-a-week program tailored for seniors. SEQUOIA provides its members the support and assistance that allows them to age in place, with independence and dignity.
