Rav Dov Singer returns to US schools & communities.
Rabbi Dov Singer, noted Israeli educator, author and spiritual leader, is returning to the U.S. to continue his work in teacher education. Seventy educators from across the country are flying in to participate in Makor Chaim’s “Lifnai V’Lifnim” 2022 Winter Seminar to be held at Congregation Keter Torah in Teaneck on Tuesday, February 8. Rabbi Singer will be accompanied by his son, Yishai Singer, director of the Lifnai V’Lifnim Educator Training program in Israel; Colonel (Res.) Rafi Wolfson, the new director of the Makor Chaim Institutions in Israel; and Yossi Baumol, director of development.
The Mayberg Foundation and its dedicated staff at the Jewish Innovation Education Challenge have chosen Makor Chaim to pioneer the professional development of teachers in the area of spirituality in education. A pilot program, which started at Cleveland’s Fuchs Mizrachi school, has now been implemented in four other schools, three of them in the New York metropolitan area. With the help of the Mayberg Foundation, as well as sorely needed new partners, an additional five schools are hoping to take part in the program next year. This is also thanks to Teaneck’s Rabbi Yehuda Chanales, Makor Chaim USA’s educational director, who has been skillfully leading the program in the United States.
Rav Singer is the head of the Makor Chaim Yeshiva and the Beit Midrash L’Hitchadshut and is author of the award-winning book “Prepare My Prayer.” In March 2020, after visiting Cleveland and New York and returning to Israel, he became one of the first Israelis to test positive for the novel coronavirus, COVID-19, and subsequently made a full recovery. In the aftermath of the kidnapping and murder of Makor Chaim students in the summer of 2014, the Israeli government designated a plot of land for a new campus now being built on the ancient Patriarchs Road near Neve Daniel in Gush Etzion.
Rabbi Singer will be spending Shabbat, February 12, in Teaneck and will spend the rest of the week visiting the schools whose staff is being trained by Makor Chaim including SAR High School, Rae Kushner Yeshiva High School and Maayanot in New Jersey, and Fuchs Mizrachi in Cleveland. In addition, he will be giving public talks at Teaneck’s Rinat Yisrael on Thursday evening, February 10, and at the Young Israel of Lawrence-Cedarhurst on Sunday morning, February 13. Rabbi Singer may also have time for private consultations.
