As Rosh Hashanah approached, MDS lower school buzzed with excitement as students dove into hands-on STEAM challenges inspired by the holiday’s traditions. From algorithm development to 3D design, these projects combined creativity, technology and Jewish learning in ways that deeply engaged the students.

In second grade, students worked on algorithms to master the sweet ritual of dipping apples into honey. By breaking down the process into simple steps, they learned the basics of coding logic, sequencing and problem-solving. Their algorithms helped them understand how a computer would carry out the task, offering an innovative approach to this cherished holiday tradition.

Meanwhile in fifth grade, students took their skills a step further by designing custom honey dishes using Tinkercad, a 3D design program. After perfecting their digital models, the students had the chance to bring their creations to life through 3D printing. These unique, student-designed honey dishes were not only functional but also served as a reminder of their work and the joy of celebrating Rosh Hashanah.
