MDS Puts the Simcha in Adar

Purim was alive throughout the MDS building and celebrated through all the divisions. In everything students did this week, Purim was front and center! Students dressed up, created, learned, sang, partied and played. Themed dress up days, mishloach manot distribution and special class projects added magic to the learning at Yeshiva Ohr Torah.

Continuing Manhattan Day School’s immersive Jewish educational experience, students were challenged to dress up in different themes during each day of the week of Purim. Beginning on Monday with MDS swag day, students came to school in special clothing! School spirit abounded with T-shirts, sweatshirts, kippot and even leggings all decked out with MDS logos. On Tuesday, students brought in an array of emoji faces. On Shushan Purim, students dressed in full costumes.

Just before Purim, Parent Council members gathered in the lunchroom to pack mishloach manot packages. This was the first time in two years that volunteers were allowed into the building. The fun atmosphere ensured that each package was packed with the spirit of friendship, just as mentioned in Megillat Esther perek 9 passuk 22!

This year the mishloach manot committee, expertly chaired by Daniella Schwebel, Andria Bell and Eliza Gibber, created a beautiful package in the theme of melave malka. The packages contained everything for a fun Saturday night melave malka at home, complete with a set of candles to light. Sharing smachot together with the school community is the hallmark of the MDS experience and the mishloach manot campaign is just one example of the Purim fun that the community shares.

This year the MDS arcade featured mini golf, an obstacle course, air hockey, a game truck and more! Students enjoyed coming to school in costume and seeing their friends and teachers in costumes as well. Thank you Parents Council for sponsoring the Purim festivities and creating memorable experiences for the MDS students!
