MDS Students Excel At NYS History Day

MDS students took part in New York State’s History Day as part of National History Day, led by their extraordinary teacher Allie Sobel, who won the National History Day Teacher of the Year: Junior Division award. After selecting a historical topic that relates to the annual theme, students conducted extensive research, analyzed their findings and created final projects that present their work. These projects were then entered into a series of competitions, from the local to the national level, where they are evaluated by professional historians and educators. Seven MDS projects made it as far as the regional competition. At the state competition MDS students’ projects on Willowbrook and Mississippi Burning each placed 4th, and a project about the Monument Men received a 2nd place finish in the state and will compete at Nationals next month. Mazal tov to all of the students on their hard work and achievements.
