MDS Students Sweep National History Day Competition

Once again Manhattan Day School students dominated at the regional National History Day Competition, which was held virtually this past March. Twenty students created websites, documentaries, exhibit boards and performances all addressing the yearly theme of: Debate and Diplomacy: Success, Failures and Consequences. Ten projects will be competing at the state competition, coming up May 2. The students’ work included such diverse topics as: The Camp David Accords, Chernobyl, the Failure of the League of Nations, and the Scopes Monkey Trial. Student Noam L. stated that, “I learned incredible researching skills that I will use next year in high school.” Last year Manhattan Day School won fourth place at the National Level, as well as having, “the best project from New York State.” Allison Sobel, student advisor for the program, hopes to advance multiple projects to nationals this year. “Each year I set the bar a little higher. This group of students have worked incredibly hard, I am beyond impressed with the quality of their projects.”
