MDS Wins Big at NYC History Day

The results are in, and Manhattan Day School had its strongest showing ever at the NYC History Day competition held at the Museum of the City of New York.

This year’s theme “Triumph and Tragedy,” in history was presented in the form of documentaries, websites, exhibit boards and group performance. From the 19 students that participated, 12 received awards and are moving on to the state competition, in Cooperstown, New York. National History Day is an eighth grade elective that focuses on historical research of both primary and secondary sources. The students begin their research in September working tirelessly in school and at home. Allison Sobel serves as their academic advisor and Ellen Korn assists with mentoring their projects. If the projects place in Cooperstown, the next step is competing at the national level at the University of Maryland in June.
