On Wednesday, December 15, a pair of suspicious men with weapons were seen at the Metropolitan Campus of Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck. As of Thursday, December 16, a suspect is now in custody following his arrest for unlawful possession of a weapon, aggravated assault, and terroristic threats, according to the arrest report by Teaneck Police.
Acoridng to official reports, a 9-1-1 call was received reporting a verbal dispute between two middle aged men, one of which was wielding a handgun and a machete, in the vicinity of Beverly Road and River Road in Teaneck. Later, a black CO2 pellet handgun was located and attributed to the suspect from the reported dispute.
For safety, Fairleigh Dickinson University locked down its campus while police were in pursuit of the suspect.
Police reports indicate that following FDU’s campus lockdown, the suspect was believed to have fled the scene and returned to his residence in Hackensack. Hackenack Police, New Jersey State Police, the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office, and the Bergen County regional SWAT team pursued the suspect and apprehended him after an hour-long standoff.
