RKYHS took the opportunity to focus on the mental and emotional health of students with Mental Health Week. The week brought in a variety of remote speakers to RKYHS and was kicked off with SEED speaker Dr. Mykee Fowlin, psychologist and professional actor whose talk was entitled “You Don’t Know Me Until You Know Me.” Dr. Fowlin focused on celebrating and accepting our differences.
On the second day of the week, social worker Talia Becker spoke to students about the “inner workings of a professional therapist” and discussed some of the areas she works on with teens and issues that are relevant to the high school students. The week’s programs continued with a session about mindfulness from wellness and life coach, yoga instructor and JKHA/RKYHS parent Sheri Klugmann (@weliveforchange). Klugmann went over the concept of mindfulness and showed students mindfulness exercises while focusing on the importance of bringing more mindfulness into your life.
The week concluded with social worker Suri Walles who spoke about mental health tips during COVID- 19 and offered insight into balancing the stresses of COVID and navigating these unprecedented circumstances as a teenager.
