Metropolitan Yeshiva Baseball League in Full Swing

The M.Y.H.S.B.L began its ninth season in March and is now in the midst of an exciting regular season. Nine teams from New Jersey to Long Island including JEC, TABC, Kushner, Heschel, Ramaz, Flatbush, SAR and North Shore are vying to dethrone last season’s champions, the Frisch Cougars.

This season promises to be highly competitive as teams fight for the coveted eight playoff spots. Anything can happen in the playoffs as was shown last season when the number eight seed JEC Lightening defeated the number one seed Ramaz Rams in the first round. Games are slated throughout May with the playoffs beginning the week of June 1 and continuing with the semi-finals on June 7th and the championship game on Sunday the 14th of June.

The league has a rich history beginning in 2007, when Westchester Yeshiva Day School defeated JEC in the first championship game. The league was formed in order to give the yeshiva students an opportunity to play the highly skilled game of baseball as an alternative to the slower recreational game of softball. The Yeshiva League gives an opportunity for Little League alum to play higher level baseball; last year the League awarded a player to receive a college baseball scholarship.

The League has had its ups and downs with schools joining and dropping out. There is always room for growth and any school interested in joining the League can contact the League office at [email protected] or at our website http://www.leaguelineup.com/welcome.asp?url=myhsbl
