(MGBL) The MGBL girls season wrapped up this weekend with the most exciting slate of championship games in league history. Three of the four championships were decided by one or two points and three of the championships were won by the lower seeded teams.
In second grade, the Panthers upset previously undefeated #1 seed MLP by a score of 14-13.
The 3/4 grade championship went to overtime as the Freebirds scored four points in the final 11 seconds, including a buzzer beater by Dahlia Neiss to tie the game at the end of regulation. The #4 seed Freebirds went on to defeat #2 seed Treuhaft & Zakarin 18-16 in overtime.
District 5 came back in the final quarter to pull off a one-point victory over Tenafly Smiles to claim the 5/6 grade championship.
The 7/8 grade championship saw the top two seeds in the division facing off. Top seeded Salmon Polo had been a powerhouse team all year and had won their regular season game against The Rothenberg Law Firm. However, this week’s game was a different story as #2 seed Rothenberg pulled off the upset and claimed the championship.
Thank you to all our players, coaches and parents for an unbelievable season and we look forward to having you back next year.
The boys season is set to start right after winter break and there are still a few spots left in the 3/4 and 5/6 grade divisions. If you are interested in signing up, please go to MGBL.org to register.
