This week’s game of the week takes us to the back gym at Ben Porat Yosef. Bellcar Electric matched up with Toppan Vintage, each team in search of its first victory of the season. In the first half, the two teams traded baskets, Bellcar’s Leora Wasserman led with six of her game high 10 points in the first half. Shayna Burack kept Toppan Vintage in the game with six points of her own in the first half.

In the second half, Wasserman continued where she left off netting two more buckets and the 20-15 victory for Bellcar. Referee Alan White told the JLNJ “Although Bellcar lost the game, they put forth a great effort. Both teams show a lot of potential and I look forward to watching them continue to progress as the season develops.”

In other news, at Yavneh Academy, Lindsey Wolf, of the Center for Dermatology, scored the first ever three pointer in MGBL Girls history in their loss to the Balanced Body Rehabilitation team.

The Mitch Gross Basketball League commemorates Mitch Gross a’h while serving as a high-caliber recreational basketball program for Bergen County boys and girls in second through eighth grades and high school boys. The league focuses on teaching basketball fundamentals to players at all levels and the value of working together as a team. The league is an enthusiastic and affordable program open to residents of Bergen County including Bergenfield, Englewood, Fair Lawn, New Milford, Teaneck, Tenafly and other surrounding Bergen County towns—and also includes participants from Passaic County, Manhattan, Riverdale and Rockland County. After general expenses, all profits of the league will be donated to local charitable organizations in memory of Mitch Gross, a”h.
