Monday night was the much anticipated first game of the high school semi-finals as the Jewish Link of New Jersey team faced team Tree Point Play in a match up of two of the most potent offenses in the league. Tree Point fed big man Ariel Rivkin early and often as he scored the game’s first six points. The inside out game of Yoni Mann attacking the hoop (11 points) or dishing it to sharpshooter Elie Jarashow (team high 15 points), brought the link back to with in three at the half, on the short side of a 21-24 game. Less than a minute into the second, Jarashow connected for another three to tie the game at 24. The game didn’t stay tied for long as Tree Point’s Daniel Aaron rattled off five three’s and guided his team to the championship game on the long side of a 44-66 final score.
On Tuesday night, the other semi-final game featured team MGBL vs Chai Lifeline. The Chai Lifeline team has been writing a cinderella story as the number nine team going in, they have knocked off the eight and one teams already. Jonathan Bick scored 16 of his game high 33 points in the first half as Chai Lifeline carried a 36-25 lead into the second frame. In the second half, MGBL pulled ahead with strong performances from Shmuli Coates (31 pts) and Eitan Pfeiffer (24 pts), when the final buzzer sounded MGBL held on for a 69-63 win and a chance to face Tree Point Play in the championship.
The championship game is being played Wednesday evening after the paper goes to print, stay tuned next week for full coverage of the big game.
