This week’s spotlight game took place at the home of the Rapids, Ma’ayanot Yeshiva High School, for some motzei Shabbat basketball. On court two, the Congregation Rinat Yisrael team faced off against the Cliffside Jewelers girls. Each team began the game looking for their second win of the season. The game was close from the opening tip. At the end of the first quarter, Cliffside Jewelers (led by Ettie Greenberg, Yakira and Aliza Mermelstein) was up by one, but at the end of the second, Congregation Rinat Yisrael (led by Leah Abrahams, Emily Schwartz and Tiferet Milgram) had a one point lead. When the horn sounded ending the third, the two teams were all tied up. With 19 seconds left to play, Cliffside Jewelers was up by one and Congregation Rinat Yisrael was forced to foul to stop the clock. Aliza Mermelstein sank the first shot and secured victory number two for the Cliffside Jewelers girls.

As the girl’s season gets ready for the playoffs, registration is filling up for the 2016-17 MGBL Boys’ league. There are limited spots available as well as sponsorship opportunities.
