It is no wonder that naïve students at leading universities protest against Israel—they need only turn to their iPhones to see a flood of biased, anti-Israel reporting. The less technically inclined can turn on their television to see, as I did, CNN’s Anderson Cooper coin a new portmanteau “militant-terrorist”—apparently he was so used to saying Hamas militant that when his teleprompter said Hamas terrorist he stumbled. (For the record, George Washington and the Minutemen were militants; Hamas, like ISIS, are terrorists.)
A thousand body bags is not good visual television—the heinous killings and mutilations are too graphic, even for TV. In contrast, rubble from a bombed out Hamas headquarters building is just what a television news channel ordered.
When Hamas reported that Israeli bombs killed over 500 civilians at a Gaza hospital the media shouted at the top of its lungs to vilify Israel. When this tragedy was traced back to Islamic Jihad, the media barely whispered a retraction or update.
Most recently, Egypt’s reluctance to provide shelter to their fellow Arabs, coupled with Israel’s need to exercise security-based caution in allowing trailers to enter Gaza, resulted in delays. Of course the media blames Israel for prudently wanting to inspect all that enters Gaza from Egypt.
