(Courtesy of HGCBY Softball League) In their first season in the Harold Gellis, z”l CBY Softball League, the Molar Bears swept the reigning champion Scrubs 6-2 and 12-5 to take home the A League championship. Game one was scoreless until the Scrubs took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning after Dan Gindea scored on a Zev Markowitz RBI single. The Bears roared back in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring three runs to quickly take the lead. James Potash brought home Tzvika Poleyeff on an RBI double, and after pitcher Rami Levine brought home Isaac Seelenfreund on a fielder’s choice, Jacob Hershenov drove in what would be the winning run with a clutch RBI single to left field.
Rami Levine was excellent on the mound, surrendering just 11 hits and seven overall runs over the two games. In game two, the Bears jumped out to a quick three-run lead in the top of the first inning, with the help of a monstrous home run by James Potash, who hit a second home run later in the fourth inning. The game was 4-2 until the top of the fifth, when the Bears added on four runs, and continued the pressure by scoring in the sixth and seventh inning. The final out was fielded by Jeff Levine who played a phenomenal second base with six putouts.
Led by captains Yoni Levine and Josh Potash, who both hit over.600, the Molar Bears were the #1 seed after an impressive 12-1 regular season. The Bears received phenomenal hitting and fielding all year from the whole roster, leading the league in runs scored and second in the league in runs given up.
