Last Tuesday night, Moriah hosted Yavneh in what most fans believe to be a preview of the YMSSA 6th grade Championship game. When the final buzzer sounded, Moriah had beaten Yavneh, 47-28.
Moriah took the early lead with a 9-3 run and never looked back. They were led by Coby Kinzelberg’s 13 points and 7 rebounds; Rafi Lewis also had a solid game, with 10 points and 5 steals. Moriah dominated the boards with 48 total rebounds, with 23 of them offensive. Yavneh fought hard, Amichai Citron had 12 points and Danny Weinberger with 7 points of his own.
On Wednesday in the second night of a back-to-back, Moriah hosted RPRY and won its sixth straight game, 47-21, raising its record to a league best 6-0. Moriah’s game high scorer was Isaac Horowitz with 14 points, followed by Jon Comet and Aaron Lubat, each with 6.
RPRY started off strong finishing the first quarter 8-8. Nadav Callen and his amazing shooting led RPRY by scoring 10 points. Even though Coach Ostrin was spotted Tuesday night scouting the Moriah-Yavneh game, RPRY was no match for Moriah. Just like with previous victims, Coach Forman’s half-court press shut down RPRY.
Moriah’s shooters started to play “their game” after 8 quick points from Horowitz and 2 beastly blocks from Gaby Katz in the second quarter. Moriah had 41 total rebounds, with 16 of them on offense.
Moriah will now cross the bridge to NYC to face MDS on April 2nd. Stay tuned . . .
