The Moriah early childhood had non-stop excitement during the week of Chanukah! Each class had Chanukah celebrations with parents, grandparents and special guests where the children sang songs, made special projects and decorated dreidel cookies (yum!).
Children’s tummies were full after listening to Morah Divsha read a special Chanukah story and watching the “sevivon” video while eating donuts, chocolate milk and chocolate coins at Café Chanukah. The lower school invited the kindergarten students with their fifth grade buddies to their Chanukah Carnival. The children also decorated special holiday cards for the Englewood first responders and delivered the cards and doughnuts with parents on Wednesday morning. On Thursday, Moriah hosted a special Dovid Pearlman concert, where everyone danced and sang to their favorite Chanukah songs. On Friday, classes learned how olive oil is made, getting the chance to squeeze their very own olives and watched the oil drip out. It was surprising to see how many olives are needed to make a container of olive oil! On Monday the kindergartners went to the Esplanade on the Palisades to sing songs and create special projects with the residents. Early childhood had the most jam-packed fun-filled week!
Moriah lower school celebrated with a week full of ruach, excitement and fun. To kick off the festivities, lower school and middle school classes joined together to participate in one of Moriah’s oldest and most beloved Chanukah traditions—Café Chanukah. The students and their buddies enjoyed sufganiyot, sang along with “HaSevivon,” and played an exciting Kahoot game. On day two, students attended a fun-filled carnival, run by fifth graders. On the fourth day of Chanukah, students eagerly awaited the arrival of rising star singer Dovid Pearlman, who had the children and teachers on their feet, dancing and singing together with ruach and energy. Day four also included carnival style lunch treats—cotton candy, popcorn and pretzels! On erev Shabbat Chanukah, students had a special oneg Shabbat, during which they enjoyed the usual kiddush and Shabbat songs, with some special Chanukah additions, like potato latkes, chocolate gelt and a themed game. Students finished off the chag with a final day of fun that included doughnut decorating and group Hallel.
Moriah middle school students had a jam-packed schedule this Chanukah filled with a diverse range of programs geared towards honoring and celebrating the miracle of Chanukah. The week started off with Café Chanukah, doughnut wars and an eighth grade boys field trip for a mesibah at Yeshiva Ohr Simcha. On Tuesday, the festivities continued with a snack packing chesed activity and an epic boys vs. girls Chanukah competition. The students battled it out in gelt gathering, dreidel duels and candle crashing for the special prize of a cholent and kugel Friday oneg. On Thursday the students got right back into the Chanukah spirit with an amazing concert with Dovid Pearlman. The week wrapped up with the annual Goods & Services auction where students bought tickets, with all the money going to Chai4ever, and entered raffles to win amazing prizes from the Moriah middle school faculty. What a perfect way to end a wonderful week of celebration!
