Moriah Early Childhood Celebrates Sephardic Heritage Month

The Moriah kindergarten children were amazed to learn that Jewish people have lived all over the globe, throughout the millennia. They understand that a variety of customs and lifestyles developed over time, which included different types of dress, cuisine, holiday celebrations and language. Even the style of how our Torah looks varies from country to country. Classes discussed the two general groups, Sephardim and Ashkenazim, and shared that Moriah has students whose families originated in many different countries. During the month of February, they focused on some of the traditional Sephardic foods that came to the United States, along with the immigrants who brought them from their countries. This week, children enjoyed making pita chips and hummus, which were a big hit. Teachers discussed appreciating the fact that today, ingredients and recipes are all readily available, so that a variety of tastes and textures from around the world can be easily enjoyed.
