The Moriah fifth graders have completed their unit on the democratic principles of the US government. They learned about the three branches and how checks and balances work to make sure our government is operating efficiently. Participating in the right to exercise your vote, how candidates are chosen and elected were explored in detail. The students watched the inauguration and the inaugural address and were then asked to write their own inaugural address about what inspiring ideas they had to improve the country. Many topics were raised. Some of the suggestions include: establishing racial justice, caring for the poor and homeless, improving the economy, creating jobs for all Americans, manufacturing more COVID vaccines, caring for animals and the planet, and working together as a nation for the good of all.
