Linking Northern and Central NJ, Bronx, Manhattan, Westchester and CT

A Moriah delegation, made up of parents, students, Head of School Rabbi Alter and Executive Director Erik Kessler visited New Jersey state legislators in Trenton to advocate for government funding for security in nonpublic schools. The group met with individuals from the governor’s office as well as numerous local state senators and assembly members. Many of the legislators presently leading the push for additional security funding represent Bergen County, including Assemblywoman Valerie Huttle, Senator Joseph Lagana and Assemblywoman Lisa Swain. Moriah students also had the opportunity to sit in on a homeland security committee meeting, where they were publicly recognized and had the opportunity to lead the Pledge of Allegiance at the beginning of the meeting. The Moriah community has been at the forefront of the push for government funding for day schools and is proud to play a leadership role in this arena. Thank you to the OU and Teach-NJS for coordinating the day and for this initiative.
