On Wednesday, March 29, Moriah’s sixth and seventh graders participated in its first-ever Moriah Middle School Science Fair. Over 70 science fair projects were on display and the Kukin auditorium was packed with parents and family members. In the two months leading up to the science fair, students were challenged to answer a question by using the scientific method. The questions selected by student groups were diverse, including, “Do fidget toys increase student focus in class?” and others. After developing a question to investigate, student groups developed a hypothesis and procedure and then carried out their experiments. After gathering and organizing the data, students analyzed their results and graphed their data using Google Sheets. The final step in the process challenged students to effectively communicate the results of their experiment by creating a display board and speaking about their experiment to family, friends and classmates. The creativity, teamwork and scientific thinking displayed by the students impressed all who attended.
