If you have ever visited The Moriah School, you have probably smelled the delicious aroma of something yummy baking in the Early Childhood Kitchen. Baking is a frequent and favorite activity of the children in nursery through kindergarten. After learning about Tu B’Shvat, the children wanted to participate in the tradition of planting trees in Israel. The Early Childhood department decided to put all that baking toward a good cause and held a bake sale to raise the money to plant trees through the Jewish National Fund.
The children and teachers prepared in the days leading up to Tu B’shvat by baking all different kinds of yummy treats, including cookies, muffins, and cinnamon rolls. The parents were given the option to come in person and buy some goodies from the Early Childhood bakers, or they were able to fill out an online order form, and the treats were sent home with their children.
This was Moriah’s first bake sale. The Early Childhood department wasn’t sure what to expect. They were blown away by the huge success of the sale. Due to tremendous support from Moriah’s parent body, the Early Childhood bakers raised over $1000. The money will pay for 200 trees to be planted in Israel through the JNF. The children are so proud of their accomplishment. Hopefully, this is just the first of many successful and delicious bake sales by Moriah’s Early Childhood Department.
