The Moriah School kindergarteners began learning about measurement. They discussed that one aspect of measurement is to measure for length. Through discussion and observation the students discovered there are also non-conventional ways to measure. Each child was given a measurement challenge. They had to design a measuring tool out of unifix cubes. Once each child decided the length of their new tool, they went around the classroom finding items to measure. The children were challenged with finding items that were the same height as their own individualized measuring tool. Excitement filled the air as each child used their measuring tool around the classroom!
