Moriah Kindergarteners Are Stars

Throughout the year, each child and Morah in the Moriah kindergarten class has had an opportunity to be a Star Name. As a Star Name, each person came up to the front of the room and was interviewed. The interview zeroed in on each child’s name, noting the spelling, what letter their name begins with and how many chunks (syllables) are in their name. They counted how many letters are in each of their names, and even put the letters in the correct order to spell each name. The Star Name child shared with their classmates important information about themselves like their family and their favorite food that they enjoy eating. After each child was interviewed, the information was written in a book and the child created the illustrations. This study of names offers a wonderful opportunity for children to observe and learn about the different children in their class. Recently the classes celebrated all of their Star Names and placed their Star Name books in the classroom library for everyone to read.
