In commemorating Yom HaShoah, Moriah middle school participated in an inter-yeshiva program where each grade heard a “Kel Malei Rachamim”: and then heard from a well known speaker. They finished their day with the student body on one Zoom which was led by Rachel Schwartz, Moriah’s Holocaust Studies teacher. Six candles were lit by Rabbi Alter, Mrs. Boim, Rabbi Lipstein, Mrs. Rotenberg, Morah Nini and Rabbi Kahane. Poems by various authors were read by students Ben Bane and Ava Gurfein and a selection was read by poet Sonia Weitz. The feature of the assembly was a short film put together by eighth grade student, Hadar Ohring. Hadar interviewed her grandfather, Milton Ohring, a survivor, artist and local Teaneck resident. Mr. Ohring produces sculptures that tell the story of the Shoah. In his interview, he explained three pieces of his artwork. He inspired the students to never forget and left them with the message: Am Yisrael chai!
