Moriah Middle School Is Off to a Great Start

A message from Moriah Middle School Principal Tzipporah Boim:

On the very first morning of school the students were smiling from ear to ear. Even while the students were wearing their masks, teachers could tell by their eyes that they were smiling huge smiles. And as excited as the kids were to be back, their teachers were even more excited to see them!

At orientation on the very first day, students learned that many things are still the same at school, yet there are a number of changes that have been put in place to keep everyone safe and healthy. Students switch from class to class, yet each grade has its own hub to be in. Teachers switch from room to room, yet make each classroom their own. Students walk through the halls, yet follow the arrows for which side of the hall to walk on. Masks are worn in class, yet sometimes the learning happens outside and then students can remove their masks and enjoy the fresh air. Davening happens twice a day, yet seats are further apart than before. Snacks can be eaten twice a day, except for this week’s third snack of yummy ice cream (thank you Moriah Association of Parents!). Lunch is still yummy and recess is longer than it was last year! By the end of the week, students were more familiar with the new protocols and were becoming much more accustomed to wearing masks in school.

While faculty are teaching in masks all day and getting acclimated as well, the teachers are truly ecstatic to be back! They missed being in school with their students and missed teaching the subjects they are so passionate about. As students and teachers became more familiar with their new routines, the learning began in earnest. It is a pleasure to see students engaged in lessons once again. Thank you to the wonderful Moriah faculty for making every day special for their students.

In addition to welcoming students and faculty back, Moriah is excited to welcome new faculty members Rabbi David Delouya, Dassi Volk, Morah Maya Yehezkel and Tali Zelenetz.

Moriah Middle School looks forward to an incredible 2020-2021 school year ahead!
