The theme of תשובה, תפלה, וצדקה has been incorporated in both the content of the Judaic classes as well as in practice in the Moriah middle school. The students are currently learning the four steps to תשובה in the classroom and are taking the meaning to heart in the בית כנסת. Following שחרית, student Mordechai (Max) Petak blows the שופר as the students respond with a powerful לדוד. At the end of תפלה, students have been encouraged to stay for סליחות and many students opted to join, making it very special and meaningful for everyone.
Additionally, on Tuesday, Erev Rosh Hashanah, the seventh and eighth graders fulfilled the mitzvah of התרת נדרים. For many students, this was a first time experience, which was enhanced by the thorough explanation of the concept by Rabbi Lipstein. To complete חז”ל’s formula for a good year, there has also been a considerable increase in giving צדקה during davening. A big yasher koach to the gabbaim who, from the very first day, have helped with the running of every tefillah. The school looks forward to this exciting רוח and devotion to continue throughout the new year.
