Moriah seventh graders are studying poetry in English class! Students have been exploring the depth, meaning, and musicality in poetry. Consequently, they have actually used music to learn poetic devices and practice identifying them. Some poems that the seventh graders analyzed beautifully include “1(A… (A Leaf Falls on Loneliness)” by award-winning E.E. Cummings, “Cynthia in the Snow” by Pulitzer Prize winner Gwendolyn Brooks, and “My Papa’s Waltz” by another Pulitzer Prize winner, Theodore Roethke. As they learn, the students are emulating different styles of poetry, like haiku and concrete poetry. With all of this practice under their belt, the seventh graders will undoubtedly excel on the various assessments for this unit.
