There’s a lot going on in science classes across all three Moriah middle school grades!
The sixth graders just finished a unit on weathering and erosion, and now they are starting to learn about the rock cycle. They have been enjoying their analysis of rock samples, and they will be developing their own models of the three different types of rock formations.
The seventh graders created cell analogy projects with the goal of understanding that there are many parts of a cell that all work together to function. For example, a cell is like a country—the nucleus is the president, the endoplasmic reticulum is the road system, the golgi bodies are like the post office and more! The students developed their analogies, everything from camp to sports teams, and created interactive presentations to share with their classmates. Now they are excited to begin working on their science fair projects!
The eighth graders are getting ready for The Pringles Challenge! The Pringles Challenge requires the students to create the smallest and lightest boxes possible out of thin cardboard that will be able to successfully mail a single Pringle chip while keeping it intact. The students have made their boxes and will be mailing the chips next week to eighth grade students at Yavneh Academy. In turn, Moriah will receive boxes of chips from them. This is Moriah’s third year participating in The Pringles Challenge.
