Before winter break, grades two through five enjoyed a new musical experience. The Pushcart Players enacted the famous 1936 musical composition of “Peter and the Wolf” by Sergei Prokofiev. Despite being conceived in Stalinist Russia, “Peter and the Wolf” has become one of the most popular pieces of children’s music ever written, thanks in part to the 1946 animated version by Walt Disney ( who, as usual, made some changes). This charming story of a little boy and his animal friends, told through music, has captured the imaginations of generations of children. Each character in the story has a particular instrument connection and musical theme. This program was sponsored by Moriah librarian Susan Levin and Dr. Daniel Levin in memory of her parents, Dr. David and Ellen Kaplan (the late in-laws of Morah Mazal Kaplan) who brought the beauty of classical music into their home.
