In Moriah pre-k, children are learning about the season of סתיו (fall). They have been having lots of fun taking a walk around the school, noticing the colorful leaves and the change in the weather. They collected עלים (leaves) of אדום (red), ירוק (green), צהוב (yellow) and חום (brown). They collected lots of בלוטים (acorns), too. But the most awesome part of the nature walk was watching the children stomp and crunch in the leaves and throw them into the air with the pure joy of childhood! Once back in their classroom, they sorted their findings by color and size. In Hebrew and English they counted each assortment, making their Hebrew lessons interconnected with pre-k math activities. The students put all of their acorns into a plastic jug, estimated how many were in the jug and then counted them…all 200 of them! They made leaf rubbings using crayons, and were so excited to see their leaves appear on paper! They also used their imagination to think what they would do if they were a leaf falling from a tree.
