The Moriah School’s 45th Annual Library Dinner is featuring a fascinating talk by Dr. Bernd Wollschlaeger, author of “A German Life: Against All Odds, Change Is Possible.” The event, which is open to the public, is taking place on Tuesday, November 15, at 7:30 p.m. The Moriah School Library is supported by the funds raised at the Moriah Association of Parents (MAP) annual book event, which was first held in 1972.
Moriah’s newly renovated library is committed to keeping the school’s book collections up to date while expanding multi-media, computer services and teachers’ resources, all of which enhance Moriah students’ educational curriculum. “The role of libraries has evolved in recent times. The new renovation ensures that the Moriah library can continue to play a central role in our school while continuing to develop our students’ love of reading and supporting them in their development of research skills,” said Rabbi Daniel Alter, Moriah’s head of school. “Our students love the new space, and it has led to an exponential increase in the usage of the Moriah library.”
The guest speaker, Dr. Wollschlaeger, describes in his book his struggle growing up in Germany in the shadow of his father, who was a highly decorated WWII tank commander and Nazi officer. Dr. Wollschlaeger, now a family physician, converted to Judaism, emigrated to Israel and served in the Israel Defense Forces as a medical officer. He now lives in Florida.
A signed copy of Dr. Wollschlaeger’s book, “A German Life: Against All Odds, Change Is Possible,” will be available for purchase for $20 at the dinner. Please RSVP online at moriahschool.org.
