Last week the Moriah sixth graders had the exciting opportunity to visit the Greenkill Environmental Center in Huguenot, New York. The students participated in several team building activities over the course of the two day trip. Students bonded with the Greenkill naturalists as they hiked through the forest, learned about the environment and practiced forging shelters in the wilderness. After dinner on Monday, the sixth graders attended a fascinating Birds of Prey presentation where they learned about the hunting and eating habits of the different birds. Then, the students participated in a night walk through the moon-lit woods. Along the way, the naturalists discussed survival skills and explained to the students how eyes adjust to the dark. The evening ended in front of crackling fire in the common room where the students roasted marshmallows and discussed the many lessons they learned during the day. Everyone agreed that this trip was a very fun and valuable experience!
