Moriah Student Council Auction Raises Funds in Schwartz’s Memory

Each year, as Moriah’s middle school celebrates Chanukah, one of the highlights is the Student Council Auction and Raffle. Students vie for unique prizes, donated exclusively by their teachers and administrators, by purchasing tickets that can net them special class onegs, homework passes, lunch or dinner with a teacher, and all proceeds are donated to a tzedakah that resonates with the student council. This year, led by Student Activities Director Rabbi Eitan Lipstein, the student council felt that all Chanukah celebrations were marred by the untimely death of Ezra Schwartz hy”d, and that the money raised for tzedakah should be given l’zecher nishmat Yechiel Ezra ben Ari Yonah. Per Ezra’s family’s request, the proceeds raised at the auction, a whopping $1,567, were donated to the Jewish Communal Fund.
