The Moriah fifth graders have been enthusiastically learning about the local, state and federal government and the importance of voting. They have become experts in the three branches of government, the process of checks and balances to make sure the government operates efficiently, and the various requirements necessary to run for elected office. Participating in the right to exercise your vote and how candidates are chosen and elected were explored in detail. Issues important to our country were examined and students will be writing persuasive essays about how each candidate supports these issues. On November 4, fifth graders will be monitoring the election booths they created in art and overseeing a lower school-wide election. Additionally on November 5, each student will be monitoring state election results and completing the electoral map with its results. The excitement of the students is growing as they anticipate the upcoming election!
