In addition to the collection on the website, Mountain Jewels makes custom pieces to customer specifications. Coates and Mazuz can meet clients in person or by phone to plan custom designs. “We consult with clients at every step, from mountings to diamonds, so they get the piece of jewelry they are visualizing and are thrilled with the results,” said Coates.
After extensive research, Coates and Mazur realized that they could offer high-quality lab-grown diamond jewelry at much lower prices than customers would find elsewhere. “Lab-grown diamonds look and feel exactly like natural diamonds. Coates, from South Africa, began his career as a diamond broker in 1982 at age 18, establishing a global network of dealers and jewelers. Mazuz, originally from Israel, started in the diamond and jewelry industry in 2003 at age 23 with his uncle before becoming an independent dealer. Their partnership through numerous transactions over many years led to the formation of Mountain Jewels.
