MTA: Championship Competitors

This Monday night the MTA Varsity Lions went to Frisch to take on the Frisch Cougars in hockey. Coming off a big loss motzei Shabbos, MTA had to regain its momentum.

The game was interesting from the beginning, with a wrestling match going on in the same room. Whistles being blown every second and the different fans cheering at different times made it hard to focus–for both teams. The players had a hard time with all the distractions, and no one scored in the 1st period.

Frisch scored early in in the 2nd when Odi Harmati ripped a shot from his own half of the court. But MTA wasn’t about to let Frisch win on one goal, and Ami Rosenfeld scored a power play goal just a few minutes later.

After words of wisdom from Marc Poleyeff during half-time, the Lions came into the 3rd strong as alternate captain Ezra Quint scored on a rebound shot. The cheering from MTA’s bench was now overpowering the wrestling fans, and with the help of little Yager and Dulitz’s very loud sister-in-law, the Lions scored yet another goal–a spin-o-rama by Daniel Yager that rang the post hard. But Ami was not going to let that chance go to waste as he knocked in the rebound.

MTA glided by the rest of the game thanks to a rock solid defense led by Gavriel Mayer (18 min.) and Zev Markowitz (the whole game). Shuki Weinstein, as usual, kept the goal horn quiet, with his fifth win of the season.
