MTA Focuses on Professional Development

MTA recently launched a new professional development series aimed at helping teachers better understand different learning profiles. “While we educate students with a variety of diagnoses, there are others who have similar traits or undiagnosed challenges that prevent them from achieving their full potential,” explained Leah Silvera, MTA’s director of Curriculum and Innovation and Learning Center director. “These sessions offer our faculty the opportunity to better understand different learning styles and develop strategies that will benefit all students as well as those with specific diagnoses.” The sessions, “Decoding: All things reading related,” “Attention and Organization: Helping students maintain their focus and develop their executive functioning,” and “Language Processing: Receptive and Expressive Language” took place throughout the month of December and provided MTA’s faculty members with the tools necessary to tailor their classes to better meet the needs of each individual student’s learning style.
