On June 1, the entire MTA community joined together to celebrate at their annual Seudas Preidah and Siyum and the culmination of the Rabbi Hyman Arbsefeld (‘49), z”l, Scholarship Campaign. This meaningful event began with a hachnassas sefer Torah written and dedicated by the Josse family. The senior class participated in the completion of the sefer Torah which was later included in the dancing at the Seudas Preidah. After the hachnassas sefer Torah, the entire yeshiva, rebbeim and faculty, parents, grandparents, and YU roshei yeshiva gathered in the Max Stern Athletic Center where Head of School Rabbi Joshua Kahn welcomed everyone expressing his pride in all the talmidim for all of their hard work that led to them sharing in this yeshiva-wide siyum.
Rabbi Dr. Ari Berman then addressed the talmidim congratulating them on this milestone followed by a student from each grade completing a sefer and a student-led siyum. MTA senior Zev Wiener, who made a siyum on Masechet Bava Basra, said that “The Seudas Preidah is an amazing event at MTA for everyone to celebrate what they accomplished together with the roshei yeshiva, rebbeim and parents.”
Simcha Leiner performed as the talmidim had the opportunity to celebrate their year-long accomplishments while dancing with their rebbeim, MTA’s Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Taubes, Roshei Yeshiva Rav Schachter and Rav Willig, and their families. “Our Seudas Preidah and Siyum is a moment in time for our entire MTA community to pause and to reflect on our talmidim’s growth and achievements. Every talmid participated in the learning and every talmid is celebrated because of his efforts,” said Rabbi Joshua Kahn.
After dancing, everyone enjoyed a delicious dinner while listening to divrei Torah given by Rabbi Taubes and MTA senior Tzvi Bromberg. Tzvi focused on the meaning of a seudas preidah in his speech. “A seudas preida gives us the opportunity to reminisce and celebrate all the good times that were, and also allows one to step back and appreciate all the progress one has made,” he explained. The evening ended with a kumzitz with Simcha Leiner and every rebbi gifting each talmid with a sefer.
