The spring of 2013 will not go down in history as a victorious one for the MTA Junior Varsity Softball Lions. Despite the 0-5 start, they nonetheless enjoyed a fun, entertaining season. Inconsistent batting and fielding efforts led to one loss after another. The team has significant talent and showed glimmers of promise, but have not yet been able to put an opponent away.
The season had its share of highlight-reel moments as well. In the season opener against JEC, Tani Rosenthal saved a run with a great play at the plate. Zev Markowitz, Lions pitcher and number-three hitter, crushed a monstrous home run over the fence at Frisch. Markowitz also struck out the side against Hillel, a rare softball feat.
The sentiment around the team is that although the record is not easy to look at, the losses brought this team closer together and will help prepare next year’s team to go much farther.
