The MTA Lions junior varsity softball team picked up a big win over the SAR Sting. The Lions took a commanding lead in the very first inning by scoring 4 runs, the first two coming thanks to Coby Sorotzkin’s 2-run homer. Then, in the third inning, Chaim Weinstein hit a grand-slam, his second of the season. In the fifth inning, Daniel Landa hit a solo home run, giving him two home runs this season. MTA pulled away for the win.
The Lions could not have won, though, without their excellent pitching and defense. Meir Uretsky pitched the entire game for MTA, giving up only 2 runs. With impressive defensive plays by Eitan Warburg, Gabe Isaacs, Coby Sorotzkin, Meir Uretsky and Eitan Pfieffer, MTA robbed SAR of multiple hits to help secure the win.
With this victory, the Lions finished their season at 4-2, securing a spot in the playoffs. This is the first time in several years that the MTA Lions JV softball team has been in the playoffs, and the Lions are hoping to bring home the championship.
